Meet Sean Szabo, Founder of IQ Football

Recognised as a leading brain-centred football coach in Gauteng, Sean Szabo is highly recommended by parents who want to assist their child’s motor and technical skills, as well as their cognitive development on and off the field.

Established in Johannesburg in 2015, IQ Football was founded by Sean as a culmination of his passion for football coaching and brain-centred research.

Football was always in his blood, coming from a line of semi-professional English football players. He was born on White Hart Lane in London, and began his own football career when he was scouted and signed by Plymouth Argyle FC. As well as excelling at his academy club, he went on to represent his county team, Devon, and trialled for England schoolboys at age sixteen, before playing semi-professionally for Tiverton Town FC.

His passion and aptitude for coaching was recognised from young, having been asked to coach the younger Plymouth Argyle FC academy players at age sixteen. But his coaching career began to become his ultimate focus, when at a crucial time, an illness stopped him from playing the game for over a year. During that time, he began developing mental strength and resilience to overcome the knock-back.

Much of Sean’s passion for understanding the mind and brain connection, and the ability to develop positive mindsets, grew from overcoming trials. This led him to study works from the likes of Jim Rohn, Michel Bruyninckx and Dr Caroline Leaf.

In 2011, he won the Football Association Football Futures Leadership Award and the English Football Association Coaching Scholarship 2011/12, giving him the opportunity to work with and be mentored by some of the best coaches in England.

He went on to gain his FA license and is VIPR (Vitality, Performance, Re-conditioning) qualified. His coaching experience spans England, Canada and South Africa.

In 2012, having just graduated with a BA Hons in the UK, Sean was scouted by Grand Canyon University, and was offered their soccer scholarship. He chose to pursue advancing his coaching programme, and today, IQ Football is helping develop intelligent players on and off the field, across differing socio-economic backgrounds, so that elite training can be accessible to everyone.

Whether you are a parent who wants to provide professional brain-centred football training and mentoring for their children, or a club player who is wanting to raise their game and become an intelligent player on and off the field, IQ Football can be your guide, taking you to the next level.
